“Although age remains the single biggest factor and, for some conditions, genetics influence your chances, there is a growing body of research literature that identifies key lifestyle factors which appear to be implicated in the development of dementia.
These lifestyle risk factors, many of which are similar to those for cardiovascular conditions, include smoking, unmanaged hypertension, diabetes and lack of education. Other factors have been proposed, although currently the evidence base is less certain, including obesity, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, sports-related head injuries and depression.”
In short, unhealthy stress is the problem. Negative stress advances as we age, can arrive from (epi)genetic issues, and all of the mentioned lifestyle factors.
The logical solution is to maximally ensure anyone understands the need to minimize unhealthy stress (i.e. better survive), which is basically the right combination of a healthy work ethic (i.e. work due to healthy stress — fitting job, loving family/friends support, positive workouts, sufficiently promptly resolving unhealthy stress sources, etc.) and a healthy relaxation ethic (i.e. relax away unhealthy stress — meditation, casual hobby, vaporizing cannabis right, etc.)
Perfection cannot be achieved against unhealthy stress, which has a perfect record against immortality by anyone within reality. Still, there are many ways to improve the stress signature of our species, including any individual within (strengthening the sense of balance needed for stability), and at least I feel the compulsion to work and relax towards that improvement.
